We keep class sizes small (limited to 6 people) which means our classes fill up quick! Therefore you must pay in full for the class at the time of registration. Fees and session times are listed below. The start dates are subject to change. Most of our classes run for 1 1/2 hours over a 10 week period. Class fees do not include materials, but all materials can be purchased at The Yarn Tree. Everyone registered for a class will also receive a 10% discount on their first purchase.
Please note: If you cancel a class 2 weeks prior to the start date you will receive a full refund. One week prior to the start date a 50% refund. The cost of the class is neither refundable, nor transferable once the class has begun. A refund of all monies will be made if The Yarn Tree cancels a class. Adult Sweater
In this class you will be knitting a raglan cardigan from the neck
down. Using a worksheet and your personal measurements, you
will design the sweater by choosing the yarn and stitches.
The sweater will be custom made for a perfect fit! You will
be working on a circular needle, so no seams to sew!

Baby Knits
Having a baby? Know someone having a baby?? Well, we've put together
the class for you! We have simple patterns for baby's first
sweater, easy to knit baby booties, even an adorable bonnet.
All knitted in worsted weight yarn on a size 8 needle. Did
you want to make a teddy bear for that special child? This
is your chance to learn how! We can even get you started on
a baby blanket. Basic knitting skills required.
As much as we love children - especially yours - our very limited classroom space makes it impossible to accommodate children while you are in class. Please make other arrangements.

Beginning Knitting
In this class you will learn to make two hats. The first will use
straight needles, the second circular and double pointed needles.
You will learn to knit and purl, enabling you to do a variety of
stitches. You will learn to cast on, bind off, increase and decrease,
sew a seam and correct your mistakes. We’ll make pompoms, tassels,
i-cord, twisted cord, cables and bobbles.
Beginning Papermaking and Then Some
During this 6-week, 3 hour per session, workshop participants will learn the basics of Western papermaking. Traditional and contemporary techniques including pulp preparation, sheet forming, use of additives, pressing and drying will be covered. We will spend time exploring the possibilities of lamination, embedding and collage. Ways to adapt these techniques for home or the classroom will be discussed. There will be an additional materials fee.

Crochet
In this class you will learn the basics of crochet. We will cover
all the crochet stitches, how to join and do shaping. You will
make granny squares, crochet embellishments and edgings. The
projects include hats, baby blankets and more!
Felting
Felting is an ancient process for making dense non-woven fabric.
It is used to make yurts, circular domed tents, that are home
to nomadic people. With the use of hot and cold water, soap
and agitation you will take prepared fleece and make felt.
Felt making is a very sculptural process and one can make hats,
handbags, mittens or even slippers. We will also explore the
techniques of dry needle felting.
Intarsia (Hat II)
Learn to do "Picture Knitting." In this class you will
make one hat. We will first practice Intarsia techniques. Then
you will bring in your own motif and learn how to transfer it to
graph paper, at the same time learning about scale, and where to
place the design. We will also practice Fair Isle Knitting and
Duplicate Stitch. You will learn how to weave in all those pesky
ends and sew an invisible seam.

Lace Knitting
In this class you will learn a variety of lace stitches allowing
you to become comfortable working with fine yarn. We will do
practice swatches for center panels, borders and edgings. You
will then design your own scarf pattern and knit it up. The
style of Lace Knitting that we will be following is known as
Shetland Lace, and we will be using the book Heirloom Knitting.

Quick
Projects
We have lots of fun patterns for this class!! Learn to make some
of this season's hottest items: Leg Warmers, Lacy wristlets,
Angora glovelets, easy to knit Fingerless Mittens, a Cable Scarf
that is reversible, even Baby Booties. All the projects are quick
to knit and make great gifts. We've come up with fun patterns
and have lots and lots of beautiful yarns for you to choose from.
You will learn to work on double pointed needles, sew an invisible
seam, and even how to do do some simple lace patterns. You must
know knitting basics for this class - casting on, knitting, purling
and binding off - we'll teach you the rest.

Sock & Mitten
Have you always wanted to make yourself a pair of socks? You will
learn to knit on double pointed needles and make a pair of
socks using Koigu’s wonderful hand painted yarn. Using
double pointed needles you will also learn to make a pair of
striped mittens. You will learn shaping, how to put stitches
on a stitch holder and pick them up again. We will be doing
two color (striped) knitting in the round!

Spinning I -
Beginning
Using a drop spindle you will spin your own yarn from prepared
fleece. You will have the opportunity to spin everything from
Alpaca to Yak. We have silk and cashmere, camel and mohair. You'll
dye your roving with Kool-Aid and your handspun yarn with Earthues
Natural Dyes. You will also learn to make a CD spindle. You will
learn how to use a flicker and handcarders.
Spinning II -
Intermediate Prerequisite: Spinning I
In this class you will be working on Schacht's "Matchless" Double
Treadle Spinning Wheel. You will learn the ins & outs of this
wonderful spinning wheel. You will ply on the wheel using a "Lazy
Kate". The class will focus on spinning "Designer" yarns
utilizing the wide variety of spinning fibers The Yarn Tree has
available.
Spinning
III - Advanced Prerequisite: Spinning II
This class is an Open Studio. We have set this up for people who have taken Spinning II at The Yarn Tree and who want to continue to work on the Spinning Wheel. The class will be monitored by Caroline, and she will help you to continue the exploration of novelty yarns. For your final class Linda will work with the students and you will dye with Indigo!

Weave
I - Beginning
You will learn the basics of making a warp and getting it on the
loom. This class will focus on hand manipulated pickups for open
lacy work, finishing techniques and variety of fringes. Your final
project will be a scarf you design utilizing what you have learned
in the class. Your work will be celebrated at a reception and show
at Habu Textiles. Loom Deposit: The deposit for the loom is an additional $260.00, refundable in full if the loom is returned in the same condition it was given. (You may purchase the loom with a 10% discount!)
Weave
II - Intermediate Prerequisite: Weave I
Still working on the Kromski Harp Rigid Heddle Loom and continuing
to use the skills learned in Beginning Weaving, we will explore
more techniques. Utilizing this small loom you will learn how to
adapt the loom to do a twill weave, we will experiment with non-traditional
materials, we will touch on simple tapestry techniques and knotting
techniques. The final project will be to create two related pieces!
Your work will be celebrated at a reception and show at Habu Textiles. Loom Deposit: The deposit for the loom
is an additional $260.00, refundable in full if the loom is returned

Weave
III - Advanced Prerequisite: Weave II
Now that you are comfortable with your Kromski Harp Rigid Heddle
Loom you will weave fabric. We will then work with Indigo and a
variety of surface design techniques. For example, the fabric can
be painted using natural dyes, then overdyed in Indigo. A variety
of resists can be utilized such as Batik (hot wax), tie-dye, thickened
Tannic Acid painted on the surface etc., and then the fabric gets
dipped in Indigo. We will be using Earthues Natural Dyes in this
class. Your work will be celebrated at a reception and show at
