Chalk, Calcium Carbonate

Chalk or Calcium Carbonate is used as a color changer or color modifier to be added to the dye-bath or mordant bath.

Chalk will "harden" your water.

Chalk is commonly added to a madder dye-bath to create a deeper red color

Chalk is used to deepen the color of Weld

It is also used to fix an aluminum acetate mordant or a ferrous mordant.

It is an item every dyer should have on hand to modify their colors
